Fakes have reached a new level
Internet fakes adapt to the news agenda, exploiting the most sensitive topics for society, and today have become a way to destabilize the political and economic situation.Last year, the issue of protecting the information space in Russia became very acute, said Vadim Vinogradov, a member of the RF OC commission, at the end of March at a round table in the RF Public Chamber on the topic “Space for Deception: How Fakes Affect the Lives of Russians.”
In particular, due to the spread of fakes in 2022, the use of Instagram* and Facebook* was banned in Russia, the owner of these social networks, the Meta** company, was recognized as extremist in content writing service the Russian Federation and was also banned. Despite this, the problem with moderating destructive content remains on other foreign platforms, for example, Wikipedia and YouTube, noted Vadim Vinogradov.

Deputy Head of the Duty Shift in the Sphere of Mass Communications of the Main Radio Frequency Center (GRChTs) Alexander Spiridonov spoke at a round table about what fakes are currently flooding the Internet.
Alexander Spiridonov, GRChC:
- Since the beginning of the SVO, information has been disseminated from several groups. The first category is classic military fakes. They are disseminated with alleged reference to the military or official data. The second group is the destruction of social infrastructure and the death of civilians. The third group is information about economic instability in Russia. None of these groups of fakes worked or caused mass unrest.
Later, other unreliable information began to appear, for example, concerning mass mobilization, nuclear war and a coup d'etat, the expert added.
Timofey Vi, head of the department for the development of strategic directions at ANO Dialog, told RSpectr that over the entire period since the start of the special military operation (SMO), more than 1.8 thousand unique fakes have been recorded,
5.5 million copies of messages and posts with fakes about SVO were found in social networks and messengers, these messages received 11.9 billion views
Most foreign IT platforms do not adhere to a neutral position, he noted. For example, Instagram* and Facebook* have adapted algorithms, lifted restrictions on targeted advertising with disinformation, and allowed calls for violence against Russians.
Timofey Vi, ANO "Dialogue":
– WhatsApp is spyware disguised as a messenger, Twitter censors and deletes content without justification, TikTok blocks video uploads from Russia to prevent broadcasts to an international audience. Google manipulates content delivery, and its platform, YouTube, blocks pro-Russian authors, manipulates delivery and recommendation algorithms.
